Efforts to combat climate change
The Québec government recently announced its plan to prohibit heating homes with fossil-fuel natural gas by 2040 as part of its broader efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
The new regulations will only restrict residential, commercial and institutional buildings from being heated by fossil fuels. Industrial buildings are exempt. The provincial government is hoping many fossil fuel users will convert to electric heating and other renewable energy sources such as biomass and renewable natural gas.
