Service for Hargassner and Gilles biomass boilers

In order to continue to benefit from the RHI, biomass boiler operators must carry out annual maintenance on their heating systems to increase efficiency and improve air quality emissions. The ideal time to carry out a full annual service is at the end of the heating season, when you will benefit from lower costs due to more efficient energy use, when the heating system is in top condition and your RHI payment is guaranteed.

According to the current technical instructions for fire prevention in automatic wood-burning systems, heating systems must be regularly inspected, maintained and checked by experts, i.e. authorised and trained technicians.

Maintenance of biomass boilers: frequently asked questions

A regular maintenance of the heating system can reduce the risk of failures or breakdowns significantly, can increase the performance and efficiency of your pellet-, wood chip or wood log boiler and thus maximise the RHI returns.

How often needs a biomass boiler to be serviced?

In order to benefit from the RHI and to minimise the risk of possible damage or failure, biomass boilers must be serviced annually. Contaminated systems with potentially defective components consume more energy and can therefore cause higher costs.

What does the maintenance of a biomass boiler involve?

During the maintenance of a biomass boiler, the entire function of the heating system is checked. The biomass boiler service involves a cleaning of the conveying system, and a check of the heating control system, the safety devices, and the emission values to ensure that these are not exceeded. Furthermore, important components such as the ash container or the heat exchanger might also be checked in detail.

How long does it take to service a biomass heating system?

The duration of the maintenance mainly depends on the boiler size as well as the condition and age of the heating system. Small boilers can be serviced within half a day, whereas the maintenance of heating systems with a power range from 50 to 250 kW will most likely take an entire day. The service of large boilers with a power range of up to 1 MW (or more) for industrial heating usually lasts around two days.

How much does a biomass boiler maintenance cost?

The costs of a biomass boiler maintenance first on foremost depend on the size, the condition and the age of the heating system.

Is there any further maintenance work necessary for me as boiler owner?

It is necessary to remove combustion residues from the boiler at shorter intervals. You should therefore empty the ash outlet approximately every one to two weeks and clean the combustion chamber roughly every four to six weeks. While the ash container can simply be emptied with the household waste or compost, it is advisable to use an ash vacuum cleaner for the combustion chamber.
