Just three years after the opening of Energy World, a new mega addition has been built at Hargassner Heiztechnik in Weng. The existing assembly and logistics halls were expanded by an area of 18,000 m2, thus doubling production capacity.
The production expansion was an urgently needed decision to meet the immense demand for biomass boilers. Hargassner’s production capacity had already reached 15,000 boilers per year. After completion of the extension, it is expected to increase to more than 30,000. The state-of-the-art heart of the new building is certainly the newly designed assembly lines.
The production employee now runs through the entire production line together with “his” boiler and thus has a much more responsible and varied job. Hargassner also hopes to minimize handover errors and individual setup and preparation times. The commissioning of the new building is to be completed successively by the beginning of autumn after a construction period of eighteen months.

The Hargassner company – founded in 1984 by Anton and Elisabeth Hargassner with a passion for environmentally friendly heating – has long since established itself as a global player in the biomass market. In the meantime, the sons Markus and Anton jun. run the family business with more than 140,000 satisfied customers worldwide.
What was the motivation to make the investment at the traditional location in Weng?
Markus Hargassner, who shares the management with his brother Anton Hargassner Jr., explains: “The increasing demand in the biomass heating sector clearly triggered the decision. Primarily, customers also wanted short and fast delivery times. Our goal was to keep the technological know-how at our own location and for the region. We are achieving this with the expansion.”
“It also has to be said that in the existing plant we could only have increased our market clout by outsourcing processes. However, the added value would have gone somewhere else. But we wanted to keep it in the Innviertel. We have seen that – not only in Corona times – this is more crisis-proof for the jobs and our company,” adds brother Anton Hargassner jr.
Sustainability as a goal
The expansion brings the company’s total floor space to an impressive 54,000 m2. In addition to 8,000 m2 of state-of-the-art assembly lines, offices, a bistro for employees and 6,000 m2 of space for incoming goods, shipping and internal logistics are also being built. The entire construction phase proceeded particularly swiftly. During the construction period, an average of approx. 266 m³ of concrete was delivered daily.

Of course, the mega-building is heated with climate-neutral biomass energy, because sustainability was the top priority. For this purpose, the Hargassner company connects the new building to the existing wood chip heating system of the existing building, which it developed itself. The flat roof is also used. Together with the old building, this increases the photovoltaic surface of the Wenger site to 1.5 megawatts. This alone would make the company self-sufficient in energy during sunny hours. Together with the Hargassner wood gasifiers that run during non-sunny hours, the company can also generate most of its basic electricity load itself.
Full-range supplier for all requirements
The removal of the final assembly lines frees up valuable space in the old plant for the rough production area. There, the pre-production lines such as sheet metal working, the welding shop and turning shop, and the pre-assembly lines can now be expanded, because the individual assemblies for the heating technology, such as fire protection sluices for backfire protection, are also manufactured at the Weng site itself.
