Hargassner brings the heat
to Kulm ski flying

More than 16,500 enthusiastic fans stormed the first FIS Ski Flying World Cup event held this winter in Bad Mitterndorf, Styria. The gigantic natural ski jump on the Kulm is renowned for top-class long jumps. Which is something the heating technology specialists from Hargassner also know. This year, they offered partners and employees a particularly great experience for two days in glorious winter weather.

Hargassner has been the official sponsor of the Austria Ski Jumping Team since 2018. The Innviertel-based heaters travelled to the Kulm with more than 180 sports fans to cheer on the Austrian eagles. In addition, the mobile Hargassner heating containers with a total heat output of 1.5 MW brought the large tent landscape up to temperature. Of course, Hargassner not only heated up their guests in the Hargassner VIP Lounge, but also in the stands with a particularly loud cheering section. With a second and third place, they rejoiced with Austria’s Stefan Kraft over two “podium places” and with Norway’s Granerud over his victory.

Climate protection is also on the podium!

At Kulm, the sports fans were also able to rejoice about climate protection. The team of organisers “Wir sind Kulm” is not only passionate about their ski flying show, but also about sustainable heating. Realised with Hargassner heating technology from Upper Austria. By heating the entire tent area with regional wood chips and pellets, the organisers saved 87 tonnes of CO2 this year. Previously, more than 30,000 litres of heating oil were used for the 300,000 kilowatt hours required. This year, local wood chips and pellets have anchored the added value in Bad Mitterndorf.

“We were connected to the heaters around the clock via apps so that they ran in the best possible and most energy-efficient way. Through appropriate heat recirculation, we were able to save energy again, as we reused most of the air that had already been heated.”
