The task
The requirements:
- Heating of the entire tent landscape using biomass
- Linking ventilation control and heating
Our solution
Christoph Prüller, head of the organising committee for the FIS Ski Flying World Cup at Kulm, relied on mobile heating modules from Hargassner for heating of the tent landscape in Bad Mitterndorf.
- Heating system for a total area of 2,275 m² or 9,087.5 m³.
- Eight mobile “Eco-Box” heating containers with pellet & wood chip heating systems
- Total heat output 1.5 MW
Through apps, we were connected to the heating systems around the clock, allowing us to continuously monitor their operation. In addition, a heat recovery system reused a portion of the air that had already been heated.

Tents at large events are mostly heated with mobile oil systems. For this reason, head of the organising committee Christoph Prüller initiated the project in cooperation with Hargassner. With eight heating containers – so-called power boxes, equipped with boilers of the ECO HK series for wood chips and ECO PK series for pellets, which each achieve between 120 and 220 kW heat output, a total of seven tents with a total area of 2,275 m² or 9,087.5 m³ were heated.
In the past, over 30,000 liters of heating oil were consumed to generate the required 300,000 kWh; this time, the energy needs were met using biomass fuels in the form of wood chips and pellets. According to project calculations, this resulted in a reduction in CO₂ emissions of approximately 87 metric tons* compared to the oil-fired heating system used previously. Furthermore, through collaboration with the company Sturmberger and Biowärme Bad Mitterndorf, the economic value generated by this major sporting event was also anchored in the region. In addition, a heat recovery system reduced heating costs by 30%.
