When more than 800 athletes from over 60 countries travelled to Trondheim for the Nordic World Ski Championships in February 2025, the focus was not only on sport – the heat supply for the major event also played an important role. The organisers relied on biomass heating systems from Hargassner.

Heat from wood instead of fossil fuels
The organisers of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim deliberately opted for a practical alternative to oil heating. Instead, they used powerful biomass heating systems from Hargassner. Together with Norwegian distribution partner Hargassner Norge, several mobile heating containers were installed on the event site – equipped with powerful wood chip and pellet heating systemsof the Eco-HK and Eco-PK types. In addition, storage containers for wood chips and pellets were installed to ensure a seamless supply of wood chips and pellets.
This meant that the VIP and public tents in Granåsen could be reliably heated even in freezing temperatures. The heat was distributed via modern warm air modules with intelligent control technology, which ensured consistent temperatures.

Hargassner: Heating technology with vision
For Hargassner, the project in Trondheim was further proof of the practical suitability of modern biomass heating systems – even in the mobile event sector. The combination of performance and flexibility made the systems a suitable solution for large-scale events with high demands. With its mobile biomass heating systems, Hargassner demonstrated in Trondheim how large event areas can be reliably heated with wood chips and pellets.
Heat supply with biomass was an essential part of the event concept for the World Ski Championships in Trondheim and will certainly serve as a model for future World Cup events.
