Chipping instead of
Oil heating system

Alexander Achatz, a service technician for heating systems, recently started using a wood chip boiler from Hargassner. Originally, a pellet boiler was planned, but the possibility of using wood chips led to the decision to set up the infrastructure for wood chip firing. The old wood store was converted into a storage room for woodchippings. Filling is carried out via a refuelling system with a screw construction embedded in the floor, which supplies the storage room with supplies.

The technical equipment: Hargassner Eco-HK 35 with eCleaner, Hargassner accumulator tank with a capacity of 1,200 litres. The heating system consists of a combination of radiators and floor heating. A Hargassner freshwater module for the daily domestic hot water is also integrated.

The oil consumption at the time was 3,000 litres and an additional 13 cubic metres of beech wood for the tiled stove in the living area. The heating costs therefore totalled around € 5,000. With the changeover, the costs for heat production for the house and wellness area were reduced by a whole € 3,500.

The consumption is currently 60 m³ of wood chips for a total of 300 m² of heated living space.
